Vitamin D & Fibroids: What Every Black Woman Deserves to Know

There was a time when I thought knowing I had fibroids was enough.

I knew their sizes. I knew where they were. I knew how badly they were affecting my body.

But what I didn’t understand was the bigger question:

Why was my body growing them in the first place?

After 14 years of battling fibroids, multiple surgeries and years of infertility, I became passionate about understanding the factors that may contribute to women’s health challenges—not simply reacting after symptoms become unbearable.

And one nutrient kept showing up in the conversation:

Vitamin D.

If you’re a Black woman navigating fibroids, this is a conversation I believe you deserve to know about.

Not because vitamin D is a miracle cure.

It isn’t.

But because growing research has explored an association between vitamin D status and uterine fibroids—and knowing your vitamin D level is one more piece of information that can help you have a better conversation about your health.

Why Vitamin D Matters Beyond Your Bones

Most of us grew up hearing about vitamin D in relation to strong bones.

And yes, vitamin D plays an important role in calcium absorption and bone health.

But vitamin D also has roles in muscle function, immune health and many cellular processes throughout the body.

That’s why I want women to stop thinking about vitamin D as just another vitamin.

Your vitamin D status is measurable.

A healthcare provider can order a 25-hydroxy vitamin D blood test to determine your level.

That means we don’t have to guess.

Black Women, Vitamin D and Fibroids

Here’s where this conversation becomes especially important for our community.

Black women carry a disproportionate burden of uterine fibroids.

Darker skin pigmentation can also reduce the skin’s production of vitamin D from sunlight, which is one factor associated with higher rates of vitamin D deficiency.

Researchers have therefore been investigating whether vitamin D status may be one modifiable factor associated with fibroid development and growth.

Some observational research has found associations between sufficient vitamin D levels and lower fibroid prevalence or growth.

But I want to be very clear:

Association is not the same thing as a cure.

Research is still evolving, and vitamin D should not be presented as a treatment that can guarantee fibroid shrinkage or prevent fibroids.

What the research does give us is another reason to know our levels, understand our bodies and have informed conversations with our healthcare providers.

That’s what I mean when I say:

Know Better.

We are living in a time when health misinformation can look incredibly convincing.

A viral video can sound scientific.

An AI-generated “doctor” can look real.

A confident voice can make an unsupported claim sound like medical fact.

Millions of views don’t turn misinformation into evidence.

Before you follow health advice, ask:

Who is saying this?

What evidence supports it?

Does the claim go further than the research actually does?

And when something is measurable—like vitamin D—test instead of guess.

Do Better: Build What You Know Into Your Routine

Knowing better only changes your health when you do something with the information.

If testing shows you’re deficient, talk with your healthcare provider about an appropriate supplementation plan and when your level should be rechecked.

At DETOX NOW, D3+K2 is one of the foundational products we use across our BalanceHer™ wellness system.

But supplementation isn’t about taking the biggest dose you can find.

It’s about knowing your starting point, choosing appropriate support and being consistent.

Remember what we talked about earlier this month?

Your wellness routine doesn’t have to be perfect. It has to be livable.

Your morning vitamin routine can become one of those small, repeatable habits.

Live Better: You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Alone

And there’s one more piece of Better Health that doesn’t get talked about enough:

Support.

You can read every article, save every Reel and buy every supplement—and still wonder:

What does all of this mean for me?

That’s why DETOX NOW offers FREE weekly group consultations and FREE VIP Membership.

After your consultation and intake, your information is used to build a Personalized Better Health Plan based on the answers you provide.

Not a generic plan.

Not simply an automated quiz result.
